investigators don't know how it started. a pair of hazing scandals is rocking the university of maryland. >> the schools suspended new member activities at three fraternities pending the results of an investigation. this comes as seven sorority sisters face charges in the off- campus hazing of a student. kid in college has been suspended and there could be criminal charges. a young woman pledging the house was taken to three area apartments in prince george's county and was attacked by students or graduates who belong to the sorority. she was pushed into a wall and the amount and punshed at one location and choked at another

location. she was told it was part of initiation. a short time later, she could and contacted authorities. is ridiculous. >> members of other campus sororities are more divided. -- mortified. >> it does not build up your chapter. >> university officials have halted plant activities at fraternities on campus as welc -- well for possible violations that one member says for now are unfounded. >> it does not sound like that happens. >> a number of students have told us the university has made great strides in cracking down on hazing. as for those charged, they face very serious assault charges.

reporting from college park. the president of the university of the district of columbia is defending himself against allegations of misspending. fox news reported that he used taxpayer money to live a lavish lifestyle that includes first- class air travel. he said that he travels to promote the university and flies first class because of a medical condition that requires space. >> i cannot over an hour-and-a- half without leg room. everything i do is aboveboard. there's no fancy anything. >> he will discuss the issue further at a hearing before the d.c. council next tuesday. thousands of libyans are fleeing the country as rebels battling forces loyal to libyan leader muammar gaddafi. two sides are fighting over a key oil town in the eastern part of the country.
